I promised to email Wanda and tell her about the family I have buried in Tupelo , MS.
M husband's grandmother is buried in what they call the Presley's cemetery I believe it has another name but I cannot remember the name of it at this time. So is some of my Aunt Dorothy's in-laws, the Griffins. My mother-in-law is Elvis Presley's third cousin and my aunt Dorothy's husband is related to Elvis as well , however I forget how , so evey year in August everyone goes to Tupelo for the Presley Family Reunion. It is kinda strange because I have family from my Aunt's side there and family from my Mother-in -laws as well.
I got to go one year and we stayed at Granny Presley's house, which by the way right from her street you can walk down and tour Evlis's first house he lived in as a child before his father went to prison for writing a hot check . That was the story that was told to be by my husband's ranny who lived with us for 8 years before she passed away. I saw a documentary on Evlis just this past year that explained why Vernon Presley went prison. He and some others friends raised a pig and sold it and because they were only paid I believe I remember them to $3.00 and they felt it was not fair and changed the check to $30.00. When Gladys was trying to get Vernon out of jail she had to get a petion with 500 siganture in order to petition for Vernon's release. In this documentary they displayed the petition and I saw Granny's siganture , Pernie Wilma Lovelady. I was blown away, however I could not ask Granny or my Mother-in -law becauces God had called them home. My husband had no clue , he is not impressed about being related to Elvcis. The funny thing that happen to us when drove from Lancaster , Texas all the to Tupelo , MS to bury Granny ( inside of a minii van ) at 2:00 am as we were pulling into the funeral home ,we were stopped by the police. They wanted to know why we were driving slow and of there we several cars following each other at that time of the morning. We exlplained that we were delivering our Grandmother to the funeral home. This trip was long and frustating because they made so many stops ( I was in the vehicle with my mother-in-law ,who chained smoked) and the last time we stopped I told them,Ya'll Do Know Granny Ain't On Ice ! It was the month of July so it was hot. I could write alnight about the stories Granny told me about Elvis but I leave everyone hanging for now . Have any questions I try to answer them with best of my recollection.

At least you can't say your family or any part of its branches is boring! That's really awesome to be related to the King!

I enjoyed your story. You need to write as much as you can down for your children. The south is a funny place. I live about four miles from the birthplace.
